Festival "Days of Serbian culture" once again a success

KD Brdo has successfully organized another annual festival called "Days of Serbian Culture". This was the sixth year in a row since we started the festival and, according to the professionals that took part in it, it was spectacular once again. Although the organizers and performers were amateurs, the festival's organization was smooth, while the program and performances were on a professional level.

The festival had a great three-day program. The first evening was reserved for our literary and drama sections. In the first part of the evening, we had the honor to listen to the lectures of several distinguished professors from Republika Srpska (BIH). After slightly comical and thus more interesting lectures, it was time for our drama section to show its qualities. It would be too modest to say that their play was great. We believe that not one of the spectators was left unfulfilled with the energy of our drama section's performance in a comedy play called "Ljubinko and Desanka". The play takes place on a park bench, on a rainy day. In order to understand the comical side of the story and understand its full meaning, the spectators had to listen very carefully and pay attention, making this play one more in a string of pearls.

The second evening was dedicated to a spectacular musical called "Songs of my forefathers". The idea for the play came from Zlatomir Bodiroža, the president of KD Brdo, who also wrote the script. The play takes place by the house in an old village, where guests from afar stop to taste "rakija", the plum brandy. Being distilled, the brandy is slowly dripping from the kettle and into a bucket, where it is cooling down. Apart from the members of our society's vocal section -- both the girls and the boys -- the performers in this play were also our friends from Serbia: BIBIL, a group of girls with angel voices from Novi Sad and the members of KUD "Stanko Paunović" from Pančevo.
On the third day, it was time for the "grand finale", which was titled "Vivacious youth". It took place in a local sports hall. The preparations started early. A sports hall is not a traditional place for stage performance but the members of our society, especially our folklore section, proved the opposite. They managed to turn the sports hall into a real theatre, using innovative decoration and having great attention to detail.
"The spectacle was a hit" was heard even from the lips of seasoned folklore professionals. The joy on their faces was enough to make us pride and convince us that we were not part of something small. Imagine a total darkness, when suddenly a childish voice in the distance makes you shiver. Before you can adjust to that feeling, fairy-like voices of young girls from all around the hall shake you like a thunder in a way that almost brings tears to your eyes. And that -- that was just the opening act of a great concert. The evening was filled with songs and dance from different countries -- from Macedonia, through Serbia and Bosnia and all the way to Slovenia. Rare were the spectators that weren't moved. Actually, judging by the comments we heard after the show, we are certain there were none.

In a way, we found ourselves a bit frightened at the end. What's next? How do we top this year's success? How do we make our guests even more involved and emotionally fulfilled? Well, as always, we will just do our best and try to find a way to make it happen all over again next year. But until then, we invite you to another great event: it is the annual concert of our folklore section. Stay tuned, so you don't miss it!
